After this first assessment, you will start learning the basic Muay Thai techniques from your personal trainer. We recommend 1-on-1 personal training to make sure you have a solid foundation.

Group Muay Thai Training Classes

We also conduct several Muay Thai Group Training sessions that are friendly on your wallet. Muay Thai Lessons for Women

Keen to start out in a friendly environment for ladies only classes? We have Women-only Muay Thai Lessons at our gym located at Katong, Joo Jiat and it is available for private trainings.

Begin Muay Thai Training With Basic Conditioning

If you have never stepped into a martial arts gym, you will be forgiven for thinking that Muay Thai for beginners is all about heavy combat and sparring. Nothing could be further from the truth.

Before you can get to the actual fights and sparring, you need to condition your cardiovascular system to handle what is dished out in the ring. You also need a lot of technical and physical skills apart from the kicks and punches. Some of the skills that you need to develop before you are ready for the ring include:

  • Speed
  • Timing
  • Balance
  • Endurance
  • Power

To maximize your Muay Thai experience, we teach you how to condition your body and how to gain all the skills mentioned above. All beginner classes start with warmup exercises including rope skipping, sit-ups and squats. After your muscles are warm and relaxed enough, your Muay Thai group or personal instructor will show you a few beginner techniques of Muay Thai. The instructor gives instructions on every technique and demonstrates how to do it.

Stepping it Up

After you have learned all the basics of Muay Thai and gotten your body conditioned, it is time to step it up.

FAQ

  • Do I need to have any experience in Martial Arts in order to join your Muay Thai Classes?

Not at all. Complete beginners are welcome to join. We also conduct classes for Amateurs.

  • What is a typical class size?

It depends on the day and timing of the class that you choose. Our group classes usually have 6 to 12 pax, or it depends on the gym's capacity due to Covid-19 restrictions. For private training, it is a class dedicated for you.

  • What do I need to bring to the Muay Thai Class?

Boxing gloves and equipment are provided at all our gyms. Hand wraps are not provided. If you own a glove and prefer to use yours, feel free to bring it along.

You are advised to bring along a water bottle and a towel.

  • What is an appropriate attire?

Comfortable dry fit or non-dry fit tshirt / tank with shorts / exercise leggings is fine. You can wear your Muay Thai shorts if you have. No footwear is required.

  • What time do I have to arrive?

Do arrive about 5 to 10 mins before commencement of class so that you have some time to settle down.

  • It is my first time. What do I have to do upon arriving?
Upon arrival, please inform our trainer of your name and you have communicated and booked your session via JR Muay Thai. Settle down and follow our trainer's instructions. Enjoy!
  • Does JR Muay Thai own any of the gyms?
We do not own any of the gym locations. JR Muay Thai collaborates with top gyms in Singapore to bring you several locations to train at.
